“Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Fairies” by Heather Fawcett
🧚♀️Ahh…I love this book!💖 This is the 3️⃣rd cozy fantasy I’m reading and, firstly, I’m growing to LOVE this subgenre, and, secondly, this book is the best one so far. It has everything the term “cozy fantasy” might require and (most importantly to me) the stakes are also pretty high.
🧚♂️We follow Emily💗 (our charming main character) as she navigates through far researches📝, journeys and quite dreadful experiences (not only in the human world, probably🤫). I’m blown away by the in-depth studies, investigations and even extensive footnotes provided for us by Emily (and the author, actually)🤓. It’s unbelievable how trustworthy they seem. Not once was I almost sure that the things described actually exist… The writing style and humour are soo good as well!😊
🧚♀️The scenery is so whimsical and beautiful with the landscapes🏔️, fairies🧚♀️, magical realms and creatures🧌, trees🌳 and all sorts of nature described🍄🍃. It is a heartwarming bonus to me that the action takes place in the North, in Scandinavia🏔️, amidst the dreamy nature, but also unpredictable and often dangerous weather ❄️of this distant (but so beloved for me) land.
🧝🏻♂️Wendell, the love interest❤️ (if we can call him that, because he and Emily communicate using a childish flirt and nagging rather than actually showing an affection or any interest for each other whatsoever😂but they are a lot of fun, I loved them!🫶🏻). The letter writing between the two of them in the beginning and the contrast in the characters are so delightful to read. Their relationship definitely develops (albeit slowly🐌) and I was pleased to see them in such a way at the end🥹🤫.
🧚♂️I’m very very glad I finally picked up this book and I can’t wait to read about more of Emily’ work and expeditions in the following novels!🥹💗✒️
