“Remarkably Bright Creatures”- Shelby Van Pelt

🐙A very touching and sweet story…🥹

At first, I was a bit skeptical because not much was happening, and I wondered what the point of the story would be. Maybe it was the octopus, Marcellus, that made me keep reading🫧. I expected him to play a bigger role in the plot, judging by the title and the book cover. However, his role turned out to be the most meaningful, and the chapters from the perspective of this remarkably brilliant creature were my favorite💕.

Marcellus is witty, funny, caring, loving, and sensitive (as strange as that may sound when said about an octopus). But I dare say that with his three hearts🫀, he is capable of much deeper and stronger emotions than many people. The outcomes were predictable, but that didn’t make the story any less moving—and that’s not easy to achieve. The author managed to weave tenderness, warmth, and love into her words. While reading the final pages, I had tears of joy welling up in my eyes, and a blurred bittersweet smile stuck to my face🫠.

I grew to love Marcellus, Tova, Cameron, even Erik…

🫧Octopuses truly are endlessly intelligent creatures and can teach us a lot. I believe this book is the right (and maybe the first) step toward them.🐙
